The Centre for Research and Training in Ultrasound was set up in 1985 at the Medical Pathology I Department, Policlinico S. Orsola, of the University of Bologna, under the guidance of Dr. V Arienti. In 1998 the Centre was transferred to the Ospedale Maggiore in Bologna. The SIUMB, SIMI and Nurses Ultrasound schools are based at the Centre; in 2006 the Centre obtained the Quality System Certificate (cert. n.4000 ECO-A) in compliance with the UNI EN ISO 9001:2000 standard for the provision of diagnostic and therapeutic internist, interventional and vascular ultrasound scans for hospitalised patients and outpatients and for the planning and organisation of training courses in:

- Clinical Ultrasound (internist, interventional and vascular) for training projects defined at national level by SIUMB (Italian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology)

- Bedside Ultrasound or training projects defined at national level by SIMI (Italian Society of Internal Medicine)

- Ultrasound for Nurses for projects and courses defined at national level by IPAVSI (Nursing Colleges Federation)
